India former president APJ Abdul Kalam dies
APJ Kalam, a former Indian president, has died at a hospital after collapsing while delivering a lecture in northeastern India, Al Jazeera said.
Kalam died on Monday night, according to B Warjri, chief secretary of Meghalaya state. He was 83.
Local media said he had been delivering a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management in Shillong when he collapsed and suffered cardiac arrest. He was rushed to the Bethany hospital where he passed on.
The president from 2002 until 2007, Kalam was known as the father of the country's military missile programme. Tributes immediately started to pour in for Kalam, with politicians and celebrities praising him.

APJ Abdul Kalam -- former president of India, eminent scientist and a role model for the country's youth -- died Monday at the age of 83. Kalam, who served as the country's president from 2002 until 2007, was fondly known as the "missile man," for his role in developing the country's defense and nuclear technologies, International Business Times reports.
Kalam collapsed while addressing students at the Indian Institute of Management in Shillong, capital of the northeastern state of Meghalaya. According to local reports, Kalam suffered a cardiac arrest and was declared dead after doctors failed to revive him. Kalam's body will be flown to New Delhi on Tuesday for burial.
